Position Responsibilities: Workforce Development
Facilitate planning and execution of the annual Garland ISD Student Career Expo, including scheduling, soliciting company participants and coordinating with GISD counseling staff.
Act as the primary liaison between Garland ISD and employers in developing and directing a systematic internship/mentorship program with definitive results.
Collaborate with Garland ISD Career-Tech teachers and counselors to schedule manufacturing facility student tours throughout the school year.
Develop and maintain a relationship with Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas and local continuing education institutions to create a functional system of communication processes and grant businesses direct access to the job matching and training resources they need.
Maintain regular communication with Garland ISD and DCCCD, providing direction for curriculum and communicating opportunities for program development based on assessed needs of local employers.
Design and execute programs that will expose the Garland community to the manufacturing industry and increase the appeal of a vocational track.
Create and manage accountability metrics of workforce-related activity, communicating results and recommending action steps to GEDP partners and community stakeholders.
Manage and develop the long-term growth and sustainability of the Dallas County Manufacturers’ Association to offer relevant and valuable benefits to area manufacturers.
Coordinate the fulfillment of DCMA Leadership Academy bi-annual classes, working with Richland College to determine curriculum and program alterations as needed.
Manage DCMA Sub-Committees, including Safety, Human Resources and Quality. Management includes scheduling, agenda creation, invitations and reminders, meeting set-up, and follow-up as well as performing research such as wage data surveys as requested.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive, accurate database of manufacturers within Garland city limits, using the list to build relationships and share applicable resources.
Facilitate the development of a platform or publication manufacturers can use to locate local suppliers and service providers, encouraging network growth and process efficiency.
Develop and maintain a systematic supplier network to be accessible to DCMA members.
Facilitate planning and execution of the annual Manufacturing Day events, including securing keynote, soliciting sponsors and company tour participants and coordinating program logistics.
Coordinate visits for the Mayor and Chamber CEO to Garland 100 companies. Conduct visits with all area manufacturers as appropriate to maintain relationships.
Experience working with the manufacturing and / or education fields
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategy
Professional and mature attitude; remains calm under pressure
Leadership skills, including meeting facilitation, creative problem solving and establishing credibility
Knowledge on the effective business use of the results measurement tools. Accountable to results that are both quantitative and qualitative
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with database management and system maintenance
Ability to operate or learn to operate industry-standard software (word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, file management, other as needed) and equipment (phones, copiers, fax, other as needed)
Ability to plan and organize responsibilities and tasks with minimum supervision. Self-motivated; Self-starter
Ability to manage or delegate complex tasks and projects; handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Independent learning and research skills to cover the broad spectrum of position responsibilities
Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field (preferred)
Experience working with non-profit organization (preferred)
